About

This blog was previously named Tangled Up in Music, and used to be home to my music reviews.

I have moved on a bit and started writing and directing short movies for a while now.

However, I still write the occasional short story and being the big music/film consumer that I am, I can’t go for too long without feeling the need to express my opinion about what I’ve recently listened to/watched.

So the blog will still be updated once in a while, when I feel the need to write things besides the scripts that I’m working on. And it goes without saying that you’ll see the short movies posted as I finish them.

A big thank you to everybody who’s been reading the blog through the years. And a kind welcome to any new-comers!

The short films that I’ve done so far:

Summer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyJjCd5HwYA&

Dreams: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBqaOBeUZTE&

Happiness?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HMil1p-aLE&

  1. Ovi, I’m impressed with your choice of words knowing you were born and raised Romanian. Way to go! Despite of the fact that I’ve have never met you yet, the blog says a lot about the person you are inside, a very genuine, sincere music lover. I wish you the best in your future endeavors and look forward to your posts.

  3. Great that a young man of your age is so passionate about music. I’m 45, and have been a fanatic since I was 13, but I didn’t become open minded about other genres and decades until I was in my late 20’s, really. By the way, there’s nothing wrong with being obsessed. Let your freak flag fly, brother!

    • Thanks a lot for commenting. When you say you didn’t become open-minded until some years later, I’m guessing that you were listening to mainly 60’s music, no?

  4. No, actually it was the 1980’s, the decade I was in high school. Those great old punk and new wave bands, actually, started me on my obsession. I always had a great affection for the ’60s, but didn’t discover bands like the VU , Stooges. Love, etc till much later.

  12. Hello. Thank you for stopping by my place. I’ll look around your place, too. I see music means a lot to you. It is great stuff for our souls.

About 10 yrs ago, I borrowed an electric guitar and amp from a friend. I wanted to be able to play me some blues. Now I can turn on some songs and play along. I’m not good. But, it is very satisfying.

    Peace…Jim

While I appreciate followers, comments can go a long way and I know they mean a lot to me as well as others. It seems like you care more about sincerity and kindness than numbers and I think that’s great!

I found your site to be amazingly spot on, and was very surprised because you are so young! I grew up listening to music of the 60’s and 70’s and am always heartened to see a younger person who loves those sounds, too. Listening to record albums is having a resurgence here in the US. I heard that some new releases will be on record albums, besides the current formats. I still love my record player! Keep up the good work!

Have you seen my Crotchety Man music blog (https://crotchetyman.wordpress.com)? There’s a lot more going on over there than there is on Stoney Fish Tales these days and it takes much the same approach as you are doing here. Never mind the genre, just listen to that lovely music!

  24. Thanks for visiting. I agree, blogging is certainly good for one’s writing. Although I have a fondness for some 50/60s music, I am not in a position to comment on reviews the music you enjoy most as my listening is almost all classical and opera. Lindy Hop swing music is good fun too if you like the dancing.

  26. Thanks for following my blog. I don’t post much but I really appreciate your interest. I read your “About” and discovered that we share a love of ancient rock and roll. I can use the word ancient because I too am ancient. I was around as that genre began it’s rise as the background music of that era in American history. I remember the faces and things that connect in my mind for each drum beat and guitar chop. Loved it then and love it now. I’m following your writings now also and look forward to reading your posts.

    • Hi. When I was 13 me and my parents moved outside the city I was attending school in, so just getting home from school took me over an hour daily. I didn’t know anybody who lived there, so walking home all by myself I started to listen to more and more music as something to save me from the boredom. At home, we had limited Internet access, so again, I would just turn to music. My parents hoped that having so much free time from all the distractions would make me turn my attention to studying, but instead I developed a serious music addiction, haha. By high school, we’d moved back to the city so I spent most of those 4 years listening to music and reading music-related stuff from any source I could think of, books, forums, articles and so on. I learned English and how to write by just reading a lot.

  48. 60’s and 70’s rock (psych, pop, prog etc.)!! I love them as well. Especially The Beatles (more specifically John Lennon). Pre-50’s music. I highly recommend old jazz songs, from the roaring 20’s, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, et al!! Also French singer Édith Piaf is one of my favourites.
